I have to give the manufacturer credit -- they've figured out a way to create a product that never functions quite the same. Each wand I bought for my three kids stopped working as intended within the first 24 hours of purchase. The first one would only activate intermittently, the second one didn't make a sound at all right out of the box (I kept it since we needed it for Halloween), and the third one made sounds even when you didn't move it. Seriously, it's a very poorly made toy. You're probably better off buying a wand that doesn't make any sound but looks more like the real deal.

This is a reasonably cute toy for the money. I didn't have any problems with it shorting out, although that's probably because I bought it as an accessory for my Halloween costume and haven't subjected it to the use a child would. However, a little boy at the Halloween party I attended relieved me of my wand and cast spells on everyone for several hours without breaking it -- the wand was definitely a big hit with him! I do think the sound effects are more Star Wars than Harry Potter (and boy, do they get annoying fast!), but that's a minor quibble and I don't regret this purchase.

This is the cheapest piece of junk I have seen in a long time. The box is nicer than the wand. I am sending it back. What a disapointment.

Granted, I paid under $10 for this, but it has to be the worst made piece of plastic I've seen in a long time. This is worse than most kid's meal toys, as far as quality is concerned.
The screw for the battery compartment was stripped on arrival (and no, it doesn't come with batteries.) I had to disassemble the whole thing to get any batteries in. The pieces don't fit together with the tip, and don't even look as though the molds are made to fit well.
The only reason it's getting 2 stars from me instead of one is because my 7-year-old thinks it's great. He loves the lights and noise - and, well, it WAS cheap.
Only spend the money if you're willing to give up any kind of quality for the fun-factor of lights and noise.

My son is so into Harry Potter, and this wand is perfect. It makes sounds, and he feels like he is really making magic.
